Summary:

The Child Psychiatry Research Committee has recently started what may be the beginnings of National committee with residents in 2011.

One of the most active lines of work during the summer, has been the personal commitment of the ex Minister Bernat Soria and of the current representative of the Ministry of Health, Trinidad Jiménez, to give the green light to the startup of a specialty for Child and Youth Psychiatry. This committee consists of members of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, scientific societies and Medical Association.

The President of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry, Jerónimo Saiz, has delegated the responsibility on the configuration of development committee to Celso Arango, Chief of the Unit of Adolescents of the Department of Psychiatry of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid and Scientific Director of the Center of Biomedical Investigations of the Mental Health Network (Cibersam). This is concurrent with the request of families that the foundation of the next committee is formed by physicians that have been dedicated to child psychiatry “but not from Pediatrics”.
